Learning Philosophy

Student-Centered

Our learning philosophy is student-centered, which means that we put our students learning first. We aim to cater to individual learning styles, offer choice and autonomy in learning when possible, and encourage students to personalize their education. We also believe in supporting learners as best as we can with coaching and mentoring support within a course and as add-on elements for anyone who wants more support.

Experiential Learning

We also believe in experiential learning, the idea that learners should experience what they are learning. We apply this philosophy using practicums, in-class exercises, and experiential homework. We also encourage learners to explore and integrate what they are learning into their daily lives, work situations, and relationships to reflect on and share those.

Intellectual & Personal

Neuropsychoidiology is a philosophy that is intended to integrate intellectual, academic, and scientific knowledge with personal and lived experiences through self-reflection. We believe in multiple ways of learning, including a focus on intellectual forms of study including scientific and academic. We also believe that personal story, lived experiences, and personal intuitions are essential for learning. Throughout every course learners are encouraged to self-reflect and to share from their own personal experiences and to use that knowledge to enhance their understanding of the world around them. This is sometimes known as ‘Contemplative Pedagogy’.

Community & Connection

In our experience of teaching and facilitating over the past 20+ years we have realized that community forms when we share our experiences and remind ourselves that we are all human with both similarities and uniquenesses. We encourage the process of community and connection by fostering an environment of openness and safety.
