Discussion Groups

Discussion groups are a core component of our courses. They serve as an opportunity for students to integrate the formal lecture-style learning with the critical and applied thinking that happens when peers get together to share their experiences with the material. A teacher is always present to facilitate the discussions, encourage reflections, and field questions. The expectation during the discussion groups, whether online or in-person is that each student is present physically and energetically and supports a safe and open space for learning.

The learning environment is important to us. We always start with guidelines for holding a safe and open space to discuss and our facilitators are there to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. Most of our courses involve an interview process in order to prepare for this safety.
