Technology is far from benign for any brain, but there are particular concerns associated with the effects of technology use on the developing brain, like those of toddlers, children, and teenagers. Everything from the effects of specific devices (e.g., smart phones, tablets, laptops), the type of content (violence, sexual, gaming, social media), the amount of use, to the time of use is on the research table. Researchers are trying to determine how all of this is affecting the brains, mental health, social development, attention, relationships, emotions, etc. So far, the research is suggesting that we should be very concerned, in ways not previously detected with other technologies (i.e., it's not the same as being on TV or on the phone all day in the 80s or 90s.) Join Dr. Mandy Wintink, Behavioural Neuroscientist, as they share the latest on the research, while also encouraging a non-judgmental environment of problem solving. They believe that a group effort is required to tackle this massive societal problem and working together as parents, grandparents, and all caregivers without judgment is what is needed.
