COVID & Mental Health

We have been concerned about the impact of COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns on mental health since March 2020. We initially reacted by hosting about 8 different virtual community clubs to support people during the periods of social distancing. We aimed to support people with meditation, accountability, creativity, and to support those experiencing mental health challanges, parents homeschooling their children, and older people. Early in 2021, Dr. Mandy Wintink was awarded a grant to study the effects of the lockdowns on mental health from the Unversity of Guelph-Humber. Those results are being prepared for publication and will be available here soon.

In the meantime, have a look at these indicators of Quality of Life released by Statistics Canada. The visualization is interactive. Choose to look at various indicators, different regions, and by two of the genders (men or women).

The research continues. Dr. Wintink employees students from the University of Guelph-Humber to conduct this research and some volunteers who do not need to be affiliated with the University. If you have data skills and wish to volunteer please contact Dr. Wintink (drwintink@canc.ca). If you wish to donate to support this research, please also contact Dr. Wintink.
